How to Track QR Code Scans with Free Analytics

Dynamic QR codes on QR Maker come with a built-in analytics dashboard. Learn how to read your scan data and understand who is scanning your codes.

How QR code tracking works

Tracking only works with dynamic QR codes. When someone scans a dynamic QR code, their request passes through QR Maker's redirect service before landing on your destination URL. During that fraction-of-a-second redirect, we log the scan event — recording the time, device type, operating system, browser, and approximate location.

What data you get

Overview metrics:

  • Total scans — every scan, including repeat scans from the same device
  • Unique scans — approximate count of distinct devices that scanned
  • Time-based breakdown — Daily scans, weekly trends, peak scan hours
  • Device breakdown — Mobile, iOS vs Android, Safari vs Chrome
  • Location breakdown — Country and City level coordinates

How to read the data

The most useful number to watch is unique scans over time. This tells you how many different people are engaging with your QR code. A spike after you distribute flyers or put up a poster tells you whether the placement is working.
