Analytics & Tracking

QR code tracking
& scan analytics

Know exactly who scans your QR codes, when, and where. Dynamic QR codes give you real-time scan data — device types, locations, daily trends, and campaign performance.

What you get

6 powerful tracking metrics

Every dynamic QR code comes with a full analytics dashboard. No extra tools needed.

Total & unique scans

See raw scan counts alongside unique device scans — so you know reach, not just repeat visitors.

Device & OS breakdown

Know whether your audience scans on iPhone, Android, or desktop — and which browser they use.

Country & city data

Map scans to countries, US states, and cities. Ideal for local campaigns and multi-location businesses.

Time-of-day heatmap

Discover peak scanning hours so you can time your campaigns, email drops, and social posts better.

Daily & weekly trends

Track scan velocity over time and spot dips or spikes that signal what's working in your campaigns.

Campaign tags & UTM

Tag QR codes by campaign, medium, or channel and compare performance side-by-side in your dashboard.

How it works

Set up scan tracking in minutes

1

Create a dynamic QR code

Choose any QR type, enter your content, and enable dynamic mode. QR Maker creates a short redirect link that captures scan data.

2

Deploy your QR code

Download as SVG or PNG and print on packaging, signage, business cards, or digital displays. Each placement is tracked separately.

3

Watch scans come in

Open your QR Maker dashboard and see real-time scans with location, device, and time data appearing as they happen.

4

Iterate and improve

Update the destination URL at any time — test new landing pages, seasonal offers, or run A/B experiments without reprinting.

FAQ

QR code tracking questions

Do I need special hardware to track QR code scans?
No. QR Maker tracks scans entirely through software — when someone scans a dynamic QR code, the redirect server logs the scan metadata (time, device, location) before sending them to your destination URL. No hardware, app, or SDK required.
Can I track static QR codes?
Static QR codes encode the destination directly and bypass any redirect, so individual scan tracking is not possible. To enable tracking, use a dynamic QR code, which routes scans through a trackable short URL before redirecting.
Is QR code tracking GDPR compliant?
QR Maker collects aggregate, anonymised scan data (IP-derived location, device type, timestamp). No personal data is stored from scanners. You should still mention QR code analytics in your privacy policy if you use scan data for marketing decisions.
Can I see which physical location or campaign got the most scans?
Yes. Create a separate dynamic QR code for each location or campaign, apply a unique tag or UTM parameter to each, and compare performance in the analytics dashboard. This is the most reliable way to attribute scans to specific placements.
How long is scan data stored?
QR Maker Pro retains scan data for the lifetime of your subscription. You can export all data as CSV at any time.

How QR code tracking works

Dynamic QR codes work by encoding a short redirect URL rather than the final destination. When someone scans the code, their device sends a request to QR Maker's redirect server, which logs the scan metadata — timestamp, device type, operating system, browser, and approximate location derived from IP geolocation — before instantly forwarding the user to your destination page.

What data is captured per scan?

  • Timestamp (date and time to the minute)
  • Device type (iOS, Android, desktop)
  • Browser and OS version
  • Country, US state, and city (IP-derived)
  • Referral source (if available from the scanner)

QR code tracking for print campaigns

Print campaigns have historically been impossible to attribute. A QR code changes that. Place a unique dynamic QR code on each ad unit — each magazine insert, each billboard, each direct mail piece — and compare scan rates in your QR Maker dashboard. You'll know which placement drove the most traffic and which to cut on the next run.
