Who uses WiFi QR codes

From cafes to corporate offices, WiFi QR codes eliminate the most annoying friction in hospitality.

Cafes & restaurants

Print a framed WiFi QR on every table. Guests connect instantly without flagging down staff for a password.

Airbnb & vacation rentals

Include a WiFi QR in your welcome book so guests are connected before the door closes behind them.

Offices & coworking spaces

Put guest WiFi QR codes in meeting rooms and reception so visitors get online in seconds.

Events & conferences

Project the QR on screen or print on lanyards. 200 attendees online, zero password shouting.

Hotels & lobbies

Replace the cumbersome "network: HOTEL-GUEST / password: 1234resort" placard with one elegant scan.

Home visitors

Generate a QR for your home guest network. Keep your main network private while visitors connect easily.

How it works

Create your WiFi QR code in 4 steps

1

Select WiFi QR type

Open QR Maker and choose "Wi-Fi" from the type selector. You'll see fields for SSID, password, and encryption type.

2

Enter your network details

Type your exact network name (SSID) and password. Select WPA/WPA2 for most modern routers. Leave password blank for open networks.

3

Style it to match your space

Pick colors, a dot style, and upload your logo or brand mark. Add a frame with "Scan to connect" text for clarity.

4

Download and display

Export as PNG for digital display or SVG for print. Laminate and place it wherever guests need WiFi.

FAQ

WiFi QR code questions

Is it safe to share my WiFi password via QR code?
Yes — the WiFi QR code encodes your SSID and password using the WPA/WPA2 standard format. The password is embedded in the QR image itself, not stored on any server. Anyone who scans it can join your network, so treat it the same way you would sharing your password verbally.
Do guests need an app to scan a WiFi QR code?
No. iPhones running iOS 11+ and Android phones running Android 10+ can scan WiFi QR codes directly from the native camera app and connect automatically. Older Android devices may need a QR scanner app.
Does the QR code update if I change my WiFi password?
No — a static WiFi QR code encodes the password at the time it was created. If you change your password, you need to generate a new QR code. Using a dynamic QR code (Pro) lets you redirect to a password update page, but the underlying WiFi credentials are still static.
What encryption types are supported?
QR Maker supports WPA/WPA2 (the most common home and business router security), WEP (legacy), and open/unsecured networks. WPA3 networks are handled as WPA2 in QR format — they still connect correctly on modern devices.
Can I add a logo to my WiFi QR code?
Yes. QR Maker lets you upload a logo, choose dot styles, pick colors, and add a custom frame with text like "Free Guest WiFi". Use the H error correction level when adding a logo to maintain scannability.

WiFi QR codes: the complete guide

A WiFi QR code stores your network credentials in a standardized format (MECARD/WiFi) that smartphones can read natively. When a guest points their camera at the code, the phone recognizes the WiFi format and offers to connect — no app, no typing, no frustration.

Static WiFi QR codes vs. dynamic redirect QR codes

A static WiFi QR code embeds your SSID and password directly. It works offline, never expires, and costs nothing. If you change your WiFi password, generate a new code. A dynamic QR code redirects to a web page — useful for pointing guests to a captive portal or a page where they can find the current password, but it requires internet access to resolve.

Best practices for WiFi QR codes

  • Create a separate guest network so visitors can't access your main devices
  • Test the QR code on both iOS and Android before printing
  • Laminate printed QR codes so they survive spills in cafes
  • Use high contrast — dark QR on white background scans fastest
  • Add "Scan to connect to WiFi" text underneath for clarity
  • Regenerate the QR code whenever you update your password

Cafe WiFi

Printed the WiFi QR on acrylic stands for every table. Our staff stopped getting asked for the password on day one. Simple change, huge difference.
