Customization

Every design tool you need

Most QR generators give you two color pickers. QR Maker gives you a full design studio.

Full color control

Set any hex color for the foreground and background. Use the eyedropper to sample exact brand colors. Supports transparent backgrounds for overlay printing.

Gradient fills

Apply linear or radial gradients across your QR code. Control the angle and color stops to match complex brand palettes.

6 dot styles

Square, rounded, dots, classy, soft, and pill — each creates a distinct visual character. Mix dot style with corner styles for full personality.

Logo embedding

Upload PNG, JPG, or SVG logos. Automatic safe-zone detection calculates the max logo size that still scans reliably, with a visual warning at the limit.

Frame & CTA text

Add a branded frame with custom text: "Scan to Order", "View Menu", "Get 20% Off". Pick frame color, text color, and font weight.

Scan safety badge

Real-time WCAG contrast calculation and quiet-zone validation. A green badge tells you the design scans reliably before you download or print.

Dot styles

6 dot styles — pick your personality

Each dot style creates a distinct visual character. All remain fully scannable when combined with correct contrast.

How it works

Design a custom QR code in 6 steps

1

Pick your QR content

Choose from 18 QR types — URL, Wi-Fi, contact, event, payment, and more. Enter your content and see the live preview.

2

Apply a style preset

Start from one of 10 curated presets — Classic, Rounded, Dots, Neon — then tweak colors and shapes to match your brand exactly.

3

Add your logo

Upload your brand logo. The safe-zone system caps the size to preserve scan reliability and flags a warning if you go over the limit.

4

Add a CTA frame

Wrap your QR code in a branded frame with custom text. "Scan to Order", "Get Directions", or anything else that drives action.

5

Check the safety badge

The scan safety badge runs a live WCAG contrast check. A green badge means your design is print-ready.

6

Download SVG or PNG

Export as vector SVG for unlimited scaling, or PNG for digital use. Pro users get up to 4000px and transparent background options.

FAQ

Custom QR design questions

Does customizing a QR code make it less reliable to scan?
Not if done correctly. QR codes use error correction to tolerate visual changes — we recommend using the H (High) error correction level when adding a logo, which allows up to 30% of the code to be obscured. QR Maker's scan safety badge validates contrast and logo size in real time so you never print an unscannable code.
What logo formats can I upload?
PNG, JPG, and SVG are all supported. For best results, use a PNG with a transparent background so the logo blends cleanly with your QR code background color.
Can I use a white QR code on a dark background?
Yes, but make sure the contrast ratio between foreground (the modules) and background is at least 3:1 — ideally 4.5:1 or higher. QR Maker calculates the WCAG contrast ratio live and shows a warning if it drops below safe levels.
Are the 10 style presets free?
Yes. All style presets, dot styles, corner styles, color customization, logo upload, and CTA frames are free. High-resolution PNG (up to 4000px), transparent PNG, and PDF export require a Pro plan.
Can I save my custom design and reuse it?
With a free account, QR Maker saves your last-used style settings so they're pre-applied on your next visit. Pro users can save named style presets and apply them across multiple QR codes in seconds.

Why custom QR code design matters

A plain black-and-white QR code is forgettable. A branded QR code that matches your marketing materials signals professionalism and gets more scans — studies consistently show that branded QR codes achieve 30–50% higher scan rates than generic ones.

The safe zone rule for logos

QR codes use Reed-Solomon error correction to tolerate visual damage. At the H (High) error correction level, up to 30% of the code can be obscured and it will still scan. Logo embedding works because the central area of a QR code carries less critical data — but push beyond 35% coverage and reliability starts to drop. QR Maker enforces this limit automatically.

Contrast: the most important design rule

Camera sensors and QR decoders need sufficient contrast between the dark modules and the light background to detect the pattern reliably. The minimum safe contrast ratio is 3:1 (WCAG AA). QR Maker calculates the exact ratio live — a green badge means you are above 4.5:1, a yellow badge between 3:1 and 4.5:1, and red means you need to adjust before printing.
